Do Herbal Hair Loss Products Really Work?

Not everybody can afford, nor does everybody want to pursue surgical or medical hair loss treatments.  Unfortunately there’s a lot of cost and side effects attributed to this method of dealing with hair loss.  Just because it’s the most expensive doesn’t mean it’s the best route to take.  Additionally some people don’t want to use prescription or medical hair loss products.

This is where natural or herbal hair loss products can really make some headway (no pun intended).  There’ve been a lot of advancements made in the natural hair loss products area.  Let’s take a look at two different courses of action one can take when using natural or herbal hair loss products.

The first is to approach this from an internal or systemic route.  You may better know this as “vitamins and minerals”.  As your hair grows out of your scalp it’s a strong indicator of how nutritionally balanced your diet is.  As a matter of fact forensic scientists can tell when somebody has been using drugs based on hair samples.  So anything you put in your body is going to show up in your hair in a positive or negative way.  This is one reason we know vitamins and minerals will have an effect on your hair loss.

The best thing to start off with is a natural balanced multivitamin and mineral product.  It’s best to pick a product that’s natural and not synthetic.  Once you’ve found the right vitamin product try giving yourself a scalp massage each day.  Do this with the tips of your fingers and not your fingernails.  Believe it or not, massaging your scalp will actually increase the blood flow to your hair follicles.  Now that your blood is full of all of these wonderful vitamins and minerals you’re helping to feed your hair when you do a massage.

The other avenue to take is a topical solution or a hair loss treatment you apply directly to your head.  There are a lot of natural or herbal hair loss products available for both men and women.  But be careful, not all of them are safe for women, especially if you’re pregnant or nursing.  So, make sure you read the cautionary notes before using any product, even natural ones.

One of the most important ingredients to look for in an herbal hair loss product is something called Saw Palmetto.  DHT is also known as dihydrotestosterone and is the primary cause of hair loss in middle-aged and older men.  Saw Palmetto helps block the receptors on cell membranes from receiving this DHT.

There’s an enzyme in your body called five-alpha reductase.  This enzyme is what produces the DHT which is causing the hair loss for most men.  Nettle root inhibits this enzyme thereby reducing the production of DHT.

I’m not recommending any particular herbal hair loss product but I do suggest you look for these key ingredients when making your selection.  Some items to look for in addition to these would be Gotu kola, pumpkin seed extract, Siberian ginseng, Dong quai, and licorice extract.
